EVOQ Bio is developing a new way to fight dangerous infections that no longer respond to traditional antibiotics.
Its lead treatment is initially targeting serious lung infections, including those affecting people with cystic fibrosis. Instead of working like a conventional antibiotic, EVOQ’s technology uses tiny particles designed to physically destroy bacteria — potentially making it much harder for bacteria to develop resistance.
Early results are encouraging. In preclinical testing, EVOQ’s treatment killed 100% of 64 bacterial strains, including drug-resistant ones, with no resistance developing after repeated exposure.
The company has met with the FDA about its path toward human trials and received nearly $500,000 from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
