Glydsphere has created an engine-sound system designed specifically for electric vehicles (EVs).

EVs are quiet — sometimes silent — by design. Yet this absence of noise is not only a sticking point with those who like the sound of a traditional engine when they drive, it’s also a potential safety issue. According to The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, new EVs and hybrids must emit noise when operating at speeds below twenty miles per hour.

Glydsphere enables drivers to meet these requirements while adding a level of personalization to their vehicle. The company’s system simulates familiar combustion-engine sounds in addition to other noises — from futuristic-engine sounds to science-fiction movie noises.

Earlier this year, Glydsphere joined the Capital One Accelerator Program and won the top prize for “Top Program Engagement.” The company’s app, which works in concert with its system, has more than 3,500 downloads as of July 2024.
