Every forty seconds, someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke. Many lose their ability to speak as a result.

Soof Solutions is giving these people their voice back. It’s developing an eye-tracking communication suite for stroke patients and those suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Its solution combines vision neuroscience and AI to create accessible communication tools. Based on technology licensed from Stanford, its three-app ecosystem uses eye-gaze tracking on standard iPads to help patients communicate.

This is a big market. The combined societal and economic costs of communication disorders are estimated between $154 billion and $186 billion annually. Soof targets the underserved rehabilitation market, specifically nursing homes and home-health networks.

The company has already created its app suite, and is now evaluating its efficacy with beta users in approved pilot studies.
