Could This Coffee Machine Be the Next OpenAI?

By Brian Eller, on Thursday, October 16, 2025

TIME Magazine just released its list of Best Inventions of 2025

This list features 300 innovations that could make the world better, smarter, or more fun — and could potentially make their early investors a fortune.

I spent the past week combing through each of the innovations, seeing if any of the companies behind them were raising capital from investors like us.

And as it turns out, one of them is.

Curious? Read on.

Roomba, Google Maps, and OpenAI Made the List

For more than two decades, TIME has identified products, software, and services shaping the world. And each year, it selects the cream of the crop as its most groundbreaking innovations.

This is a prestigious list. Prior inventions have created a global impact, and made the companies behind them incredibly valuable.

Roomba, Google Maps, LED light bulbs, OpenAI — over the past twenty-five years, each of them made the list. And each of them eventually changed the world.

Which invention from this year’s list may do the same? Here’s a contender…

Coffee From Thin Air

This is the Kara Pod:

It can make coffee out of thin air.

Its patented technology generates pure, mineral-rich water directly from the air, and then uses it to brew coffee using biodegradable coffee pods.

At first blush, a coffee machine may not seem like a disruptive device. But a coffee machine is just one application for this technology. Consider the markets this product could impact:

  • The $5 billion domestic market for coffee machines.
  • The $38 billion coffee-pod market.
  • The market for water purifiers, projected to reach $56 billion globally by 2028.
  • And the $348 billion bottled-water market.

That’s an opportunity worth more than $447 billion for the Kara Pod, as well as the startup that created it…

Introducing Kara Water

The startup is called Kara Water.

It’s developed patented technology that transforms air into safe drinking water. Using this technology, it’s created a line of products for use in homes, offices, and commercial spaces.

You already learned about its Kara Pod coffee maker. The company has also created Kara Pure, an air-to-water device that produces up to ten liters of water a day. (By the way, this product was also named a TIME Best Invention.)

These products could be game-changers. After all, two billion people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water.

With Kara’s products, you don’t even need plumbing. All you need is air — just plug in the system and you’re all set.

Kara’s inspiration came from a beetle in a South African desert known as Stenocara Gracilipes.

This insect survives by capturing water vapor in the air on its shell. Once it captures enough, the beetle stands on its head and drinks the water from its back. Its shell uses something known as Van Der Wahl forces to physically attract the water in the air to its surface. Kara Water replicates this process.

Kara won CES Innovation Awards in 2023 and 2025. To date, sales of its products have totaled several million dollars. Notable customers include Moen, Hyatt, IKEA, and Samsung.

You can find Kara’s products at Costco and Wayfair.

Furthermore, you can also invest in the company today. Here are the details.

Your Chance to Invest

Demand for Kara’s products is on the rise. That’s why the company needs additional capital to scale its business.

Kara is raising four million dollars at a valuation of ~$61 million. This opportunity is open to all investors, regardless of income or net worth, and the minimum investment is about $500.

Please note: this funding round closes tomorrow, October 17. So if you’re interested in exploring an investment, please do so ASAP!

Kara has a lot going for it. It has a big vision, millions in sales, and was just named to TIME’s Best Inventions list.

That being said, the markets it’s targeting are crowded and it faces considerable competition.

That’s why I’m not suggesting that you rush out and blindly invest in this company. Like any early-stage investment, this requires substantial research.

But if you’re intrigued by this technology — and you’re looking to invest in award-winning products that could change the world — Kara could be a good place to start your search.
