Kevin Durant just had a $60 million slam-dunk.
Durant is a forward for the Houston Rockets. And as a two-time NBA Champion, an MVP, and a four-time Olympic gold medalist, he’s also a future Hall of Famer.
He does well for himself on the court. In fact, he’s earned more than half a billion dollars during his NBA career.
But he does well for himself off the court, too, as a startup investor. His most recent win? A $60 million slam-dunk.
Today, I’ll tell you about his win — and show you how to copy it.
Hugging Face
Back in 2017, long before AI was a buzzword, Durant and his business partner heard about an early-stage tech startup with a funny name: Hugging Face.
Basically, the company was building an open-source platform to help software developers share and collaborate on AI models.
At the time, very few investors were paying attention to open-source AI software. But Durant saw the potential. So he put $100,000 into Hugging Face’s seed round. And later, he invested another $150,000 in the company’s Series A.
He even tweeted about it:

Look what happened next…
$60 Million Profit
With AI exploding, Nvidia just acquired Hugging Face — for $12.9 billion.
Nvidia wanted it because Hugging Face has become the central hub for open-source AI software development. By gaining control of it, Nvidia cements its position at the center of the whole AI ecosystem.
Meanwhile, Durant is walking away with an estimated $60 million profit from this single investment. Good for him, right?
But there’s the thing. You don't need to be an NBA superstar with millions of dollars to use Durant’s investment playbook…
Getting in Early
For decades, traditional financial “experts” have given everyday investors the same advice: Put your money into an index fund, buy a few blue-chip stocks, and hope the market goes up a few percent a year.
But the ultra-wealthy — venture capitalists, tech executives, pro athletes — have always known a secret. The biggest gains come from getting into companies before they go public or get acquired.
By the time a company IPOs, or gets bought out by a giant like Nvidia, the biggest gains have already been pocketed by early investors.
That’s how Durant turned $250k into $60 million: he bought in when Hugging Face was just a tiny private startup.
