According to the CDC, the cost to treat chronic diseases in America represents 90% of the $3.5 trillion in annual healthcare spending. That’s a $3.1 trillion problem.

Revero may be the solution. This company has created an online platform aimed at treating and reversing chronic diseases. Unlike other “solutions” on the market, Revero’s platform addresses the root causes of these diseases. In other words, it helps treat the underlying health issues, not just a person’s symptoms.

To achieve this, Revero takes users on a personalized health journey, primarily centered around a carnivore-based food elimination diet. This strategy helps people identify which foods are harmful to their body and enables them to create a personalized plan of attack.

Personalized health platforms are big business:

• Livongo, a similar platform for creating personalized plans, was acquired by Teladoc in 2020 for $18.5 billion.

• Virta, a platform helping users create plans to reverse diabetes, was valued at more than $2 billion after a funding round in April 2021.

• And Omaha Health, another health platform, was valued at more than $1 billion following a funding round in February 2022 led by Fidelity Management.

As mentioned, though, only Revero addresses the root causes of chronic diseases. Furthermore, it has a wider range of health disorders it can potentially treat.

For now, the company focuses on getting users to adhere to a carnivore-based diet. This means eating only meat, fish, and other animal foods.

In a recent survey of 12,000 people following this diet, 74% said their overall health was “much better,” and 42% were able to eliminate medications they were taking.

82% said their digestive health got “much better,” and 72% said the same for their mental health. Roughly two-thirds saw decreased body fat levels and improved skin health.

Revero’s ultimate goal, however, is to incorporate this diet plan with a collection of Artificial Intelligence-based nutritional therapy resources and biomarker feedback. Here’s how its approach will work:

First, a patient will be onboarded with a doctor, then add their demographic, lifestyle, and health data to Revero’s platform. AI-based algorithms will personalize their nutritional therapy, which will involve removing foods contributing toward their diseases. This therapy will adjust based on the patient’s biomarkers and symptoms.

As patients improve, physicians will be able to de-prescribe any medications that are no longer necessary and provide on-demand support. Patients will track their progress and also gain access to community support from other users.

Revero will use a subscription-based business model. Currently, it charges $15 per month for access to non-medical resources. These include the carnivore diet regimen, as well as community and coaching resources.

Once its AI and biomarker feedback resources are implemented, Revero will charge patients $300 per month for this plan. The company’s aim is to have these plans reimbursed by health insurance companies and employers.

Revero launched its initial platform in 2020. Subscriptions are on the rise, climbing from about 1,000 at the start of 2020 to 2,000 a year later to nearly 3,000 today. At the same time, the company’s churn rate — the frequency at which users stop using a platform or service — is falling significantly. It went from around 25% in 2020 to less than 10% today.

Revero has reached an annual revenue run rate of $400,000, and projects to reach around $15 million in annual revenue by 2025. This is based on introducing plans to treat autoimmune conditions, Type 2 diabetes, and mental health disorders.
